To all VFRC members,
Firstly, we would like to report that the VFRC has completed yet another year of operation, growth, and tributes to club members and the men and women in uniform and on the front lines keeping our communities safe. The club reached its 500th member recently, Coe Decker - a former Marine from Desert Storm - and plans for next year's events are underway. All residents are always invited.
Secondly, is the future of the club. Since its inception, the VFRC has not required dues from its members. As a result of recent changes in club fundraising practices, however, and the rising costs of club events, the VFRC will be instituting voluntary dues of $10 annually beginning in December. These dues are not mandatory. All members, regardless of contribution, will remain in active status within the club. We are simply appealing to members who enjoy the degree of content the club provides, to help in supporting continued operations going forward. Donors may make checks payable to the VFRC and contact any of its officers or board to deposit.
On that note, we would like to discuss additional steps we are taking to ensure longevity: receiving a state exemption and federal designation as a tax exempt, nonprofit organization.
Lotteries, or gambling, more broadly, are expressly banned in the state of Florida. Nonprofits that meet certain requirements, such as veterans' organizations, however, can receive both tax and lottery exemptions to operate raffles and 50/50s legally as a form of revenue. The VFRC has contacted the appropriate agencies to inquire about the necessary process to achieve exemption. Stay tuned for more details.
All the best to our members for a happy and healthy 2026. We look forward to seeing you at future meetings and events.
Join us March 26, 2026 for our annual tribute to Vietnam War veterans and in welcoming veterans from the Ardie R. Copas State Veterans' home in Tradition. Guest speakers to include former military generals.
